It’s quite simple.
I LOVE THIS BOOK.
I read it in one night.
The book provides insight into the struggle of finding the right medications for bipolar disorder through the creative usage of images and text.
It took her FOUR YEARS to find the right meds.
FOUR.
YEARS.
The author suffers from Type I (mania and depression… just like me).
Ellen Forney shows the draw of the manic highs and the isolation of depressive lows.
She highlights various aspects of the disease and treatment, including not wanting to use meds at all.
She goes into what it feels like to share with others that you have a mental illness. I feel like topics like that are not discussed enough.
She also looks into the link between mood disorders and creativity, one which I find especially interesting as one who values her own creativity.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in getting a patient’s perspective on mood disorders or with an interest in clinical psychology! 🙂
