I started a job at a local after school program tutoring fifth graders. This week, I will be working with a group of third graders.
Yesterday, I was attempting to help this student complete his homework. As he was working, I noticed that he was doing it wrong.
Every. Single. Problem.
I approached him to tell him this and he insisted again and again on the wrong answers.
He said that he didn’t care if they were wrong.
He said that he didn’t care if he got bad grades.
He simply didn’t care about school at all.
I viewed his report card and saw that he was failing nearly every class.
How do you explain to a third grader how critical it is not to fall behind?
